Hand2Hand Ministries

"You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing."  Psalm 145:16

Hand2Hand is a ministry that provides supplemental weekend food for families in need at Lakewood Elementary School.  Each Friday, a sling backpack is brought directly to each student's locker (to avoid calling unnecessary attention to participating students) that contains five to six food items that will be used over the weekend.  Students are responsible for returning the empty backpack to his/her locker on Monday morning so they can be collected and packed for redistribution on Friday.

Hand2Hand Ministries is supported through food donations from the congregation at Fellowship Reformed Church.  If additional food is needed after donations have been received, "Hungry for Christ Food Ministry," located in Hamilton, provides additional resources.  Food items that are included in Hand2Hand backpacks should be child friendly, nonperishable, and preferably vitamin fortified (boxed or canned food, granola bars, juice boxes, cheese and crackers, cereal, etc.).  It is important to note that Hand2Hand is not meant to feed a family for the entire weekend, but is meant to provide supplemental food.

A variety of volunteers are needed to support this ministry including: People to place and organize donated food items into the Hand2Hand pantry (located at Fellowship), people to pick up food from "Hungry for Christ Food Ministry" in Hamilton (if needed), people to pack Hand2Hand backpacks for distribution, people to distribute Hand2Hand backpacks on Friday, and people to collect Hand2Hand backpacks on Monday morning from Lakewood.
